History of the Museum

The “Memorial Museum of Repression Victims” at Karshi State University was established following Resolution No. 936 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, dated November 22, 2017, and Order No. 869 of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education, dated November 28, 2017. In line with these directives, the museum was inaugurated on August 28, 2018, in two exhibition halls at the entrance of the “Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah” Memorial Complex in Karshi, by the Rector’s Order No. 704I, dated December 5, 2017. In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the museum was relocated to one of Karshi’s most significant historical landmarks, the “Odina Jome Mosque,” on October 11, 2021, where it continues its operations. The collection of the museum has grown significantly through the diligent efforts of its scientific researchers, and today, it holds a total of 2,853 primary and supplementary exhibits.

Mission and Objectives

The key mission of the museum is to study and promote the lives and legacy of the nation’s forefathers who were repressed during the periods of colonialism and authoritarian regimes, and who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of homeland. This is accomplished through extensive research and public exhibitions. In collaboration with local academic institutions, universities, and public organizations, the museum also organizes thematic excursions, cultural and educational events, scientific conferences, and exhibitions to preserve and commemorate the memory of the victims of repression.
