Karshi State University recently hosted a powerful cultural event aimed at making students’ free time more meaningful and enriching their spiritual and educational development. Held in the courtyard of the university’s Museum of Repression Victims, the open-air performance featured striking stage design and a moving portrayal of one of the darkest periods in Uzbekistan’s history — the years of political repression under a totalitarian regime. The play depicted the devastating impact of the repressive policies that disrupted the lives of over 100,000 people. At the center of the story was the character of Badriddin Sharipov, a prosecutor and one of the many victims of political persecution. His painful and courageous journey was brought to life as the play’s central figure, capturing the emotional depth of those turbulent times. The production was based on the novel “Fidoiy” by renowned writer and Honored Journalist of Uzbekistan Farmon Toshev, and directed by Farhod Boynazarov. Talented actors from the Regional Musical Drama Theater delivered compelling performances that resonated deeply with the audience. The play left a lasting impression on students, encouraging thoughtful reflection on the historical events that have shaped the nation’s past.
